Mijn weekplaatje van deze week was het “bluesalbum” van Rick Springfield, The Snake King. Blues op zijn Rick Springfields, met catchy, poppy melodieën. Wat aan dat album opvalt, zeker voor zo’n op en top Amerikaanse college radio-artiest, zijn de teksten. Titels als “God Don’t Care”, “Santa Is An Anagram” en “Jesus Was An Atheist” zullen voor veel gefronste wenkbrauwen hebben gezorgd. Humoristisch waren die teksten overigens wel:
Mary was a pragmatist
And virgin rolled in one
One day she said to Joseph
“Joe, I think the time has come
Your boy needs to get a job
Try the laundromat”
Joseph said, “he ain’t my boy
I think we settled that”
Mary said something about
Semantics with a smile
Joe said, “I’m going drinkin’
I’ll be back in a little while”
